ROSEVILLE AREA SENIOR PROGRAM
Historical Background
The North Suburban Senior Council, Inc., (NSSC) was incorporated in August
1975 as a tax exempt, non profit organization as recognized by the 501(c)(3)
code of the Internal Revenue Service. The NSSC was begun by the grassroots
efforts of local older residents who shared concern about the lack of services and
programs for older persons in the north suburban area of Ramsey County.
Through the formation of a partnership with the Roseville Area School District
(ISD 623), the NSSC began to secure financial and voluntary resources to
implement a home delivered meals service and towards development of other
services for older residents primarily living within the school district
boundaries.
The ultimate goal was to establish an umbrella agency for all senior citizen
programs or services and to develop a community senior center. The NSSC began
to mobilize community leaders and soon developed a network of churches, civic
organizations, local clubs, and agencies to provide input, volunteer assistance and
financial ssupport. With the assistance of the Roseville Area School Disstrict,
the NSSC lobbied for funding from Ramsey County to implement services.
Ramsey County funds were secured in 1975 and the Roseville Area Schools soon
hired a Senior Citizens Coordinator /Executive Director to work with the NSSC.
Today, the Roseville Area Senior Program, co- sponsored by the NSSC and ISD
623, is one of the largest community senior centers in the metropolitan area and
provides a comprehensive range of services and program activities for adults
aged 55 years and older
