Dispute
Resolution
Center
265 Oneida Street, St. Paul, Minnesota 55102 612 -292 -7791
December 18, 1992
r'C22i'
Susan Hoyt
City Administrator
City of Falcon Heights
2077 Larpebteur Avenue
Falcon Heights, MN 55113
Dear Ms. Hoyt:
1993 marks the 10th anniversary of the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC).
Over the past 10 years DRC has been able to provide cost effective and
efficient mediation services to thousands of residents and businesses in the
East Metro area. As a non profit organization, the Dispute Resolution Center
is only able to keep its door open through the generous support of private
foundations and corporations as well as contributions from municipalities like
Falcon Heights, Ramsey County, and the State Court Administrators Office.
As 1993 fast approaches I am writing to request continued support of
$500.00 from the City of Falcon Heights for 1993. In making this request, I
want to briefly share some of the highlights of the past year.
In 1992, the Dispute Resolution Center will open nearly 500 cases
involving the businesses and residents of Roseville and the rest of the East
Metro area. As in past years, the Center helped the parties reach agreement
in over 75% of the cases in which the parties were willing to use the
mediation or conciliation process to resolve their disputes. DRC has also
worked with various municipalities in helping them resolve disputes between
constituents or disputes between the city and its constituents. In these
cases, the cities have saved time and money in having the parties work on a
resolution through the mediation process.
I have also continued working with the AMM Committee on Dispute
Resolution to promote mediation to the AMM member communities. In the next
few months, the AMM Committee will be publishing a handbook to help
municipalities use mediation in a more efficient and cost- saving manner. I am
hopeful that the handbook will encourage municipalities to utilize the
Center's resources and increase the referrals we receive from your city.
As in past years, I would be happy to sit down with you, members of your
staff, or the City Council to discuss this request or ways in which your city
can better utilize the Dispute Resolution Center's services. I also hope to
speak with you after the AMM Mediation Handbook is published.
