III. POLICY: <br /> 1. The following job classifications are reasonably <br /> anticipated to involve exposure to blood, body fluids, <br /> or other potentially infectious substances in the <br /> performance of their duties. <br /> A. Emergency Medical Technicians. <br /> B. First Responders. <br /> C. Rescue Squad Members. <br /> D. Firefighters. <br /> E. Other personnel not otherwise classified. <br /> 2. All personnel shall take universal precautions when <br /> performing official duties where it may reasonably be <br /> anticipated that he /she may come into contact with <br /> human blood and OPIM. This includes the use of <br /> appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to <br /> minimize or eliminate exposure. <br /> 3. All members shall ensure that they have all the PPE <br /> readily accessible to them at all times while <br /> responding to a call. Issued PPE shall include but not <br /> be limited to: <br /> A. Disposable type gloves. <br /> B. Eye- nose -mouth protection. (Helmet with face <br /> shield or protective glasses /goggles with <br /> protective side shield and a vapor /mist /dust <br /> mask). <br /> C. CPR pocket mask with one -way valve. <br /> D. Plastic bags with biohazard tags. <br /> E. Antiseptic hand wipes and /or EPA rated <br /> germicide. <br /> 4. It is recommended that all members follow universal <br /> precautions and use PPE when participating in a good <br /> Samaritan act. <br /> IV. VACCINATIONS: <br /> 1. The Falcon Heights Fire Department provides to all <br /> Members at no expense, voluntary hepatitis B <br /> vaccinations. Vaccinations of new members will be <br /> provided with in 10 working days from initial <br /> assignment. <br /> 2. Members must sign a declination form (Addendum 4) if <br /> they choose not to be vaccinated but may later opt to <br /> receive the vaccine at no cost. Should booster doses <br /> later be recommended by the United States Public Health <br /> Service, members will be offered them. <br /> 5 <br />
