6. Contaminated clothing shall be disposed of as <br /> soon as practical using the regulated waste <br /> disposal procedure in step nine (9). <br /> 7. Other surfaces may be decontaminated using <br /> gloves and hot soapy water, approved <br /> disinfectant or a solution of bleach and <br /> water. (The recommended ratio is 1:100 or 1/4 <br /> cup of bleach to a gallon of warm water.) If <br /> splashing on clothes, skin, shoes ect. is <br /> anticipated other PPE should be used. Prior to <br /> starting large, visible material shall be <br /> removed with disposable towels and disposed of <br /> as bio- hazard waste. <br /> 8. The vehicle (ambulance) driver is responsible <br /> for ensuring that equipment which has become <br /> contaminated with blood or other OPIM shall be <br /> decontaminated as necessary. Equipment <br /> included but not limited to: backboards, <br /> V- blocks, mast trousers, suction equipment, C- <br /> C- collars, and the vehicle itself. <br /> 9. Contaminated sharps shall be discarded <br /> immediately or as soon as feasible in <br /> containers that are closable, puncture <br /> resistant, leak proof on the sides and bottom <br /> and labeled and color coded as approved by the <br /> Minnesota Department of Health, as OSHA. <br /> 10. During use, containers for contaminated <br /> sharps shall be easily accessible to <br /> personnel and located as close as feasible to <br /> the immediate area where sharps are used or <br /> can be reasonably anticipated to be found. <br /> 11. All sharps containers shall be maintained in <br /> the upright position through out there use <br /> and replaced routinely and not allowed to <br /> overfill. <br /> 12. The disposal of regulated waste will be <br /> through an authorized disposal company. <br /> Arrangements have been made to dispose of <br /> bio- hazardous waste and contaminated items. <br /> The Rescue Captains will authorize any <br /> expenditures for such disposals. <br /> 13. The fire department will be cleaned and <br /> decontaminated in accordance with the posted <br /> weekly schedule. <br /> 14. Ambulance 756 will be cleaned and <br /> decontaminated in accordance with the posted <br /> weekly schedule. <br /> 15. Ambulance 754 will be cleaned and <br /> decontaminated in accordance with the posted <br /> monthly schedule. <br /> 8 <br />
