VII. BIOHAZARD COMMUNICATION: <br /> A. Members will affix warning labels (with the <br /> biohazard symbol) to containers of regulated waste <br /> and other containers used to transport blood or <br /> OPIM. Red bags or containers may be used instead <br /> of labeling. These containers will be picked up by <br /> the disposal center. <br /> B. When equipment is contaminated, labels shall be <br /> attached to the equipment stating which portions <br /> are contaminated. <br /> VIII. POST EXPOSURE EVALUATION AND FOLLOW -UP: <br /> A. When a member has an exposure incident, he /she will <br /> notify an officer as soon as possible, and will <br /> fill out a Pre Hospital Communicable Disease <br /> Exposure and Response form (addendum 2). This <br /> shall be followed up with a first report of <br /> Injure /Workers Compensation /Accident /Illness Report <br /> form to the Fire Department Chief within 24 hours <br /> of the incident. When appropriate PPE was not <br /> used, the Member shall included in the report the <br /> extenuating circumstances. <br /> B. The completed Pre Hospital Communicable Disease <br /> Form will be delivered to the facility where the <br /> patient is transported. The form should always <br /> accompany the patient. If circumstances prevent <br /> this, the receiving hospital should be informed <br /> verbally of the exposure and the form delivered as <br /> soon as possible. The form will include <br /> documentation of the route of exposure and the <br /> circumstances under which the exposure occurred and <br /> the identification and documentation of the source <br /> individual. <br /> C. Initial Evaluation (as per Ramsey EMS protocol). <br /> 1. a. The exposed EMS personnel should be seen in <br /> the emergency room that received the patient. <br /> b. If this is not possible, the EMS personnel <br /> may be seen (as soon as possible) in the <br /> Ramsey's Emergency Medicine Department. <br /> 2. a. Review of your tetanus and hepatitis history. <br /> b. Baseline blood studies may be drawn from you. <br /> c. Tetanus or hepatitis treatment may be <br /> initiated. <br /> d. Discussion of the risks of the disease <br /> transmission from the exposure. <br /> 3. The source individual's blood shall be tested as <br /> soon as feasible after consent, if obtained in <br /> order to determine HBV and HIV exposure. <br /> 9 <br />
