f
City of Falcon Heights, Human Rights Commission
Minutes of the Meeting, 4 -20 -93
1. Minutes
It was established that it has been a concern that no minutes
have been submitted for HRC meetings held in the current year and
established that in order to maintain a record of commission
actions that minutes will be submitted monthly.
2.Discussion of Falconeers Seniors Club.
The meeting was attended by Bernice Lindemann representing the
Falconeers Seniors Club. All Falconeers activities were
discussed. The commission is attempting to ensure access to all
club programs. Day trips have not been occurring in recent years
due to a lack of interest. When they were held the only
attendees with restrictions were those who used canes andt one
member with emphysema. Current club activities include:
Dessert -Card playing
Christmas Party
Picnic in the Park
Potluck Dinner
Senior Center dancers
Fire Marshall presentation
The question was raised regarding membership, whether disabled
people were encouraged to attend or if they stayed away due to a
real or perceived access problem. It was established that since
membership is built up mostly through word of mouth and by the
printing of announcements in the local newspapers, that an
accessibility disclaimer would be added to all announcements
encouraging attendance and instructing those with special needs
to contact the city offices to make arrangements.
3. ADA Compliance Discussion
Brian Standing, Student Intern for the City of Falcon Heights
attended the meeting and presented a draft of the compliance
update (see attached). Discussion was held clarifying our
current status and those issues which require further attention.
Attention was called to the self evaluation checklist presented
at the League of Minnesota Cities training seminar attended by
Shirley Chenoweth. It was determined that we will enlist the
assistance of the representative of an advocacy group in
performing our self evaluation.
4. Review and discuss updating of commission regulations
Shirley Chenoweth presented an updated version of the Human
Rights Commission regulations. Changes were approved with the
re- addition on the phrase to represent the city's business community."
