City of Falcon Heights <br /> Human Rights Commission Y <br /> Minutes of the Meeting <br /> May 18 1993 <br /> 1. Minutes <br /> Minutes from the April 20th Meeting were presented and approved <br /> with the readdition of Brian Standing's ADA compliance update. <br /> 2. Project Reflect Respect <br /> Larry Mozzitello Extended an invitation to members of the <br /> commission to attend the Project Reflect Respect Program kickoff <br /> event on June third at the Roseville Senior High. He explained <br /> that attendees of the kickoff will have the opportunity to sign <br /> onto activity groups that will then as the core of the project, <br /> concentrate on one of six areas including but not limited to: <br /> Education <br /> Law enforcement <br /> Churches and religious organizations <br /> Elected and appointed officials <br /> Civic and community organizations <br /> Project Reflect Respect's mission is to deal with diversity in the <br /> broadest sense, to celebrate diversity, and avoid stereotypes. The <br /> project centers upon community involvement. Initial funding was <br /> obtained from the Bremer Foundation, with funding now coming as <br /> well from the Minneapolis Foundation. Organization of the project <br /> began last August. Members of the commission expressed interest in <br /> participation in the kickoff event and in the project as it <br /> develops. <br /> 3. ADA Compliance <br /> Information presented by Brian Standing at the April 20 meeting was <br /> discussed and recommendation to City Council was approved, <br /> 3A. Following a discussion, the following meeting dates were <br /> scheduled for June through September, 1993. June 15, <br /> July 13, August 10 and September 21. <br /> 4. Future Projects <br /> A. Assemble response team <br /> As recommended by the League of MN Cities a team should be <br /> assembled to respond to 'incidents of discrimination within the <br /> community. Members should be assigned certain specific duties (ie. <br /> contacting law enforcement personnel, contacting victim, writing <br /> letters to the editor, contacting community and religious agencies) <br /> for which they would be responsible upon the occurrance of <br /> incidents. A network of responders should be built and maintained. <br /> A brochure detailing services and contacts would need to be <br /> produced. <br /> B. Work Program for Disabled <br /> Determine whether it is possible /proper for Falcon Heights to hire <br /> Kaposias (sic.) organization members for community projects as seen <br />
