He has requested that the <br /> city consider paying an additional 500 (parts and labor) for <br /> the shut -off valve that will upgrade this hydrant. He does not <br /> require the shut -off valve. <br /> Staff discussed the purpose of the shut -off valve with Mr. Al <br /> Coulter of the St. Paul Water Utility. He said that it is now <br /> standard on a fire hydrant because it allows the hydrant to be <br /> shut off at the hydrant rather than turning off the water main <br /> to repair or work on the hydrant. <br /> The city routinely replaces, adds and improves its fire hydrants. <br /> This request conforms to that practice. <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: Approval of the purchase and installation of a <br /> fire hydrant shut -off valve for the fire hydrant at 2097 Folwell <br /> Avenue for approximately 500 out of the city water fund. <br /> Consent <br />
