ov Meeting Date: 7/14/93 <br /> Agenda Item: C 4 <br /> CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: Request for hiring Mr. Dave Tretsven as a <br /> regular part -time employee <br /> SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY: Vince Wright, Public Works Foreman <br /> EXPLANATION/SUMMARY: <br /> Mr. Dave Tretsven has worked off and on as a temporary <br /> employee for the city's public works department since 1986. Over <br /> the past three years, especially spring and summer, he has <br /> consistently worked with the public works staff on all public <br /> works and park projects. The department continues to need on- <br /> going additional workers in addition to the two full -time <br /> employees in public works to keep up with its workload. This <br /> need will increase with the addition of two new pathways along <br /> Coffman Street and Cleveland Avenue in the winter of 1993. Mr. <br /> Tretsven has filled in almost full time since the temporary <br /> absence of the public works foreman, Mr. Wright. At this time, <br /> Mr. Wright's date of return to work is unknown. This appointment <br /> would fit into the longer term personnel plans for the public <br /> works department. <br /> The change from temporary to regular employment for Mr. Tretsven <br /> means that he would continue to work on an as- needed basis, but <br /> that the staff would schedule his time and expect that he would <br /> be available to the city. As a temporary employee Mr. Tretsven <br /> is free to say that he is not available. Mr. Tretsven would be <br /> classified as a public works maintenance worker. The change would <br /> not increase the number of hours he works. It would increase his <br /> hourly rate from 7.00 per hour to 10.50 per hour. It would <br /> also entitle him to vacation benefits, but not health benefits. <br /> The additional wage increase will impact the city's budget. <br /> However, the contingency fund will cover any costs that aren't <br /> made up in cost savings elsewhere. <br /> If approved, the appointment would be contingent on passing a <br /> physical exam related to the job requirements at the Airport <br /> Clinic, which specializes in work related physicals. <br /> ATTACHMENTS: <br /> A job description <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: Approval of the appointment of Mr. Tretsven to <br /> a regular (not temporary) part -time public works maintenance <br /> worker contingent upon passing the city's physical exam <br /> requirement. <br /> ent........ .sent <br />
