Page 2
Agenda item P -1
are proposing a program for chamber and council review that they
feel more directly meets the needs of this community. It is a
simple outreach program for new business owners and, on occasion,
current business owners. Essentially it involves the following:
1. Develop a joint chamber and city information folder to
distribute to new businesses along with the municipal
business license.
The folder would contain some information on both
organizations. The chamber would use this as a way to let
the business know about the organization and business
community, but not as a way to promote memberships in the
chamber. The city information might include the following:
a list of city employees to contact regarding licensing
requirements
a review of key city items like the annual fire
inspection and license renewal
a list of key city events like the Ice Cream Social
a list of all businesses in the city (This can also be
mailed to all new residents along with the "Living in
Falcon Heights booklet and recycling information they
currently receive.)
a booklet "Living in Falcon Heights"
2. Have the administrator and a chamber representative
distribute this folder with the new business license on a
drop -in basis.
Benefit to the city
1. This approach will provide useful information for new
business owners as well as provide an opportunity to know
the city outside of a regulatory setting.
2. This approach will continue to strengthen the city /chamber
partnership in a mutually beneficial endeavor.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Discuss this proposal and direct the administrator to proceed as
desired.
