over past years. Terry Iverson will arrange for use of the fire
department's mugs. Laura Kuettel will arrange for refreshments and
will order videos focusing on reduction of waste. Each member
should make a nametag out of a reused product.
7. Final Meeting. A last- minute meeting to deal with
unresolved problems or questions will be held at 7:00 on Wednesday,
September 29. Members need not attend unless they have an issue to
discuss.
COMMISSION GOALS: Nancy Misra disagreed with the goal of
comprehensive curbside recycling collection out of concern that it
will return people to the "1940's" assumption that their garbage can
simply be hauled away, relieving them of responsibility for
reduction and management. With the understanding that the goals are
flexible and provide a starting point for the Commission's efforts,
Susan Smith moved and Terry Iverson seconded that the goals be
approved as written.
NEWSLETTER: The October meeting is reserved for planning the next
Solid Waste Commission newsletter. The schedule is expected to
require that assignments be completed by the end of October so that
the newsletter can be proofed and published in November.
NEW MEMBERS: Three positions are available on the Commission and
members are encouraged to ask neighbors and acquaintances if they
are interested in serving. The opportunities will also be
advertised on the cable channel and in the newsletter.
On the motion of John Hustad, seconded by Laura Kuettel, the meeting
was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan K. Smith, Secretary
1710R
-3-
