Meeting Date: 11/24/93
Agenda Item: P 2
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Discussion on priority snow removal areas for
the public works staff
SUBMITTED BY: Vince Wright, Public Works Foreman
REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
Mr. Wright, the city's public works foreman, establishes
priorities for which areas (not plowed by the county) receive
snow removal first by the city's public works' staff. This year
the list includes additional plowing along Cleveland Avenue and
Coffman Street. If there is a heavy snowfall, not all plowing
can be done by three workers within a day. In a record breaking
storm, like the Halloween storm of 1992, the work takes several
days to accomplish. The department has a bobcat, two tractors, a
pick -up truck with a plow and two snowblowers. The snowblowers
are kept at the ice rinks. Two areas may be plowed at once. The
staff receives few calls requesting plowing in a way that would
change this priority list.
1. City hall area
sidewalk
front parking lot
road on southside of city hall for fire department
parking
2. Ice rinks
Community Park
Curtiss Field
Grove and Falcon Heights school
3. Pedestrian walkways
Hamline (used to walk to bus stop and school)
Roselawn
Cleveland
Coffman
4. City hall south lot and back of building
5. Cul de sac at end of Lindig, if not already cleaned.
6. Cul de sac at end of Prior and Curtiss Field, if not already
cleaned.
7. After all plowing is done, sidewalks and crosswalks at
Larpenteur and Snelling and bus stops, if not already
cleaned.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Discuss priority snow removal and recommend changes, if
desirable.
Si% i• ii i y >i:;
