OUCY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY Meeting Date: 3/23/94 Agenda Item: P CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Item Description: Approval of Public Works /Parks Superintendent job description and authorization to advertise for the position Submitted by: Carol Kriegler, Parks Recreation Director Susan Hoyt, City Administrator Reviewed by: Vince Wright, Public Works Foreman Explanation /Summary: With the anticipated June 30th retirement of public works foreman, Vince Wright, staff is making preparations for hiring a replacement. Staff recommends a hiring date of June 1st. This will provide for a transition period that will enable Vince to familiarize his replacement with the city, its facilities, parks, equipment and ongoing operations. Attached is a recently drafted job description which outlines the primary objective of the position, major areas of accountability, and the knowledge, skills and abilities considered necessary to perform the job. The position currently constitutes a compensation range of $25,693 $31,550. Vince Wright's '94 salary is scheduled at $31,550. No change is recommended for the pay range. Staff recommends advertising for the position statewide in the Sunday, April 3rd and April 10th editions of the Star /Trib and St. Paul Pioneer Press newspapers, the Focus and the League of Minnesota Cities bulletin. All metro area cities will be advised of the position opening as well. The application process will include a written survey of the candidate's level of experience and training associated with a wide variety of public works and park maintenance skills and operational equipment. A point system will be employed in grading and ranking the candidates. A "physical demand and requirements" statement pertaining to the position will be made available to the candidates as a supplement to the job description. It is hoped that staff will have a recommendation for appointment at the May 11, 1994 council meeting.
