POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY Meeting Date: 6/22/94 Agenda Item: P 3 CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: Proposed resolution changing the polling place for precinct 2 to the Falcon Heights Elementary School at 1393 Garden Avenue SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator REVIEWED BY: Carla Asleson, Administrative assistant /planner EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: Several months ago the council directed staff to investigate moving the city's second precinct polling place from the United Church of Christ at 1795 Holton Street to the Falcon Heights Elementary School at 1393 Garden Avenue at the earliest date that was convenient for both parties. This move was suggested because the school is a public place that offers an opportunity for students to watch adults participate in the election process on election day. The Roseville School District 623 is very receptive to this move. However, due to the current remodeling of the school building and adjacent parking lot, both parties determined that it would be best to make the formal move to the school in 1995 for the November, 1995 election rather than for this September's primary election. This will allow the school to completely finish the reconstruction (which will probably be done by the September primary election but This will also give the school children and staff time to become familiar with how to use the new space, gain access to the school and determine parking patterns so that the city and school staffs can coordinate the access, parking and space for public use, the election materials and the election judges on election day. Several elderly residents require close parking and easy access to vote at any time during the day. Although it is only one day, it is important that both groups work well together during this important time so that a positive impression is left on the students and voters. In order to begin with this transition, the city must pass a resolution designating the polling place to be the Falcon Heights Elementary School at 1393 Garden for the as of January 1, 1995. The county will notify city constituents of the change in 1995. Thanks goes to the United Church of Christ for all their assistance and space during the 1994 city elections and all past elections. ACTION REQUESTED: Adopt resolution designating a change of polling place for precinct 2 from the United Church of Christ to the Falcon Heights Elementary School at 1393 Garden Avenue.
