revised guidelines were reviewed and determined to be acceptable.
The list of charities to which unsold items can be donated was
reviewed and determined to be acceptable. The guidelines issued by
Saint Anthony Park to participants in its community garage sale were
reviewed but yielded no new information. An ad has been placed in
the Park Bugle, which also ran a small article about the sale.
After further discussion of the pros and cons of advance
advertising, it was tentatively decided to issue press releases in
early May and to advertise in the Pioneer Press and the Star Tribune
a week before the sale as well as the day of the sale. Jeff
Alexander will talk to the proprietors of the Coffee Grounds to
determine if that restaurant will serve as the second official map
distribution site (along with City Hall). Jeff also volunteered to
distribute maps to participating businesses before the sale.
NEW PRODUCT INFORMATION: A "spacemaker" undersink organizer for
recyclables is now available and would help to answer the concerns
of residents who prefer "fifth Friday" collection in longer months
to avoid the accumulation of large numbers of recyclables.
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL GRANT: Vadnais Heights used a grant from the
Metropolitan Council to produce and distribute to residents
refrigerator magnets describing its recycling program. The
Commission briefly discussed possible uses for such a grant,
including new recycling signs.
ROSEVILLE SOLID WASTE CURRICULUM: Barbara Leary proposed that
Kathi Lyman -Onkka be invited to speak to the Commission at a future
meeting regarding the Roseville school district's curriculum on
solid waste issues. It was determined that the August meeting,
being after the garage sale and the car seat collection have taken
place but before the next solid waste newsletter is produced, would
be a good time for this presentation.
On the motion of Susan Smith, seconded by Laura Kuettel, the meeting
was adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
i
11 00
Susan K. Smith, Secretary
1987R
-2-
