r <br /> k E <br /> MINUTES DR <br /> Solid Waste Commission Meeting <br /> April 14, 1994 <br /> Chair Marty McCleery called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. <br /> COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Jeffrey Alexander, Laura Kuettel, <br /> Barbara Leary, Catherine Mackiewicz, Marty McCleery, Mary Pat <br /> McGinnis, Susan Smith, Shirley Chenoweth, acting staff <br /> representative, and John Hustad, council liaison. <br /> COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: John Brynildson and Michael Haglund. <br /> AMENDMENT OF MINUTES OF MARCH 10, 1994: With regard to the <br /> collection of used car seats, the words "safety issue" should <br /> replace "hazardous waste issue With regard to police involvement <br /> with the city -wide garage sale, the minutes should reflect that <br /> Laura Kuettel made a presentation regarding the sale at the block <br /> captains' meeting. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 10, 1994: Laura Kuettel moved and <br /> Jeffrey Alexander seconded the approval of the minutes of the March <br /> 10, 1994, meeting, as amended. <br /> WELCOME OF NEW MEMBER: The Solid Waste Commission welcomed its <br /> new member, Mary Pat McGinnis. Introductions were exchanged. <br /> COLLECTION OF USED CHILD CAR SEATS: The City Council has approved <br /> the Commission's proposal that the City participate in Project <br /> Childsafe by collecting used child car seats in conjunction with the <br /> ice cream social this summer. Laura Kuettel will draft a letter to <br /> the city liaison for the Falcon Heights /Lauderdale Lions Club to <br /> request that the Lions donate the funds to offer a $3 per seat <br /> "bounty" to encourage people to turn in car seats and that the Lions <br /> provide volunteers to collect the car seats. The volunteer Lions <br /> would receive training from Project Childsafe. <br /> The Commission will seek clarification regarding disposal of <br /> seats which do not pass the initial intake inspection. <br /> Mary Pat McGinnis will draft press releases and language for <br /> submission to the local press, as well as a paragraph for the ice <br /> cream social informational notice and the city newsletter, to <br /> announce the car seat collection. To tie the program in with the <br /> Commission's mission, the promotional materials will emphasize the <br /> recycling /reuse aspect of the collection. <br /> The Commission agreed that it would be appropriate to invite <br /> Lauderdale residents to participate in the collection. <br /> CITYWIDE GARAGE SALE: The Commission discussed and revised the <br /> letter to local businesses, which will invite businesses to <br /> participate and encourage them to register at City Hall and also act <br /> as distributors of maps and information sheets for the sale.
