P..L1 Meeting Date: 5/25/94 Agenda Item: P 1 CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: Hiring of Mr. Lawrence Klingenberg as public works and parks superintendent SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator Carol Kriegler, Parks and Recreation Director EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: On May 18, 1994 the staff (Susan, Carol, Terry Maurer and Vince) interviewed four candidates for the public works and parks superintendent position that is open due to the retirement of Mr. Vincent Wright as public works foreman. The position includes working closely with Carol Kriegler, who supervises the city's parks, grounds and facilities, to coordinate the ongoing maintenance and improvements to these. It involves supervising two employees and working with the city's streets and sewers. The staff recommends hiring Mr. Lawrence Klingenberg for the position at a starting salary of $30,800 a year contingent upon a physical exam for the job. Mr. Klingenberg comes highly recommended by his previous employers. His most recent position has been as a self employed property manager for several apartment units. Prior to that he worked as a maintenance supervisor for two wastewater treatment plants. One was located in Monticello. Mr. Klingenberg has a degree in electronics and a certificate of water and wastewater management from St. Cloud Technical College. He also has a boiler's license and class B drivers license. Mr. Klingenberg and his wife, Jillian, plan to attend the council meeting to be introduced to the mayor and council. Mr. Klingenberg plans to begin working on June 6, 1994. ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the hiring of Mr. Lawrence Klingenberg as the parks and public works superintendent at a starting salary of 30,800 a year. This is contingent upon a physical exam.
