Meeting Date: 7/13/94
Agenda Item: P 2
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Proposed ride along program for the fire department
SUBMITTED BY: Clem Kurhajetz, Fire Chief
REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
Peter Bachman, City Attorney
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: Prepared by Susan Hoyt
The fire department would like to provide opportunities for citizens to ride along with
the firefighters in the fire and rescue vehicles. The purpose of this is to improve
communications and promote a better understanding of the department's operations.
Many police departments and fire departments already provide opportunities for ride
alongs.
The proposed ride along program limits citizen riders to one ride -along on one nine
hour tour of duty unless written permission is granted. This restriction does not apply
to the explorer scouts, the administrator or the city council.
The city's insurer reviewed the request and recommended that the city adopt a policy
governing the ride along program.
ATTACHMENT:
A Proposed ride along program for the fire department
B Comments from city's insurance agent (BRW) and company (Berkley)
ACTION REQUESTED:
Review and approve the ride along program for the fire department.
