POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY POLICY
Meeting Date: 9/14/94
Agenda Item: P 1
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Request for approval of the Ride Along Program
SUBMITTED BY: Fire department
REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
The city council tentatively approved the proposed ride -along program prepared by
the fire department for riders on fire calls earlier this year. However, the council
requested that the staff and firefighters work out a mechanism to assure the public
that the riders responding to rescue calls be carefully considered to assure the privacy
of individuals in medical emergencies, which constitute the majority of the city's
emergency calls.
After discussing this item, the fire department is recommending that the rescue call
ride along program participation be restricted to persons who have received the 40
hours of first responder training through the Falcon Heights fire department or another
authorized rescue service as approved by the fire chief. The fire department is also
recommending that participants in fire calls and rescue calls sign an agreement of
confidentiality.
The program limits ride along participation to one nine hour tour of duty for anyone
unless authorized to participate more often by the fire chief.
ATTACHMENTS:
1 Proposed ride along program (see page 2)
2 Confidentiality form
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the fire department ride- along program as revised.
