;;::::ii iii::::: 71i::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::":"::::: Y::::
Meeting Date: 9/14/ -94
Agenda Item: p
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Cities Week Neighborhood Events
SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
In an effort to compliment the city sponsored community -wide
events that occur throughout the year, staff recommends that
informal neighborhood based gatherings occasionally be conducted.
On August 22 an informal picnic was held at Curtiss Field for
"friends and neighbors" of the park. It's estimated that the
event was attended by 80 to 100 people. The event seemed to be
different from other city sponsored events in that it served to
bring friends and neighbors together from a specific area of the
city. Folks in attendance seemed to welcome the opportunity to
attend a neighborhood based event.
In celebration of "Cities Week staff suggests that an informal
gathering be scheduled for each of the neighborhoods in the city.
The event would consist of members of the Falcon Heights Fire
Department and the St. Anthony Police Dept., along with their
vehicles, parked in a designated location in the neighborhood.
Their presence would serve as location for friends and neighbors
to gather as well as provide an opportunity to meet and visit
with members of the fire department and the police officers that
will soon serve the city. It is suggested that coffee, lemonade
and cookies would be served at each location. Publicity for the
events would be accomplished by noticing it in the local
newspapers and dropping fliers off two days prior to the event in
each specific neighborhood.
THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE IS RECOMMENDED:
Monday, September 26, 1994, 6 -7 p.m.
Hollywood Court
Northome
Thursday, September 29, 1994, 6 -7 p.m.
Falcon Woods
University Grove
tl I
Saturday, October 1, 1994, p.m.
Falcon Heights School
Maple Knoll, Garden, Fry
ACTION REQUESTED: Authorization to conduct "Cities Week"
neighborhood events.
:::•:;r::: :::::::;;;:::::;;:;r::::2 :::::i:::i::i:::;:::; ::::::`s::YYY:YY:::;:;:; ?::::::i:' "'22Y: »;4
