WORKSHOP ..:111r RK H_ P:: RK .H. RK; HOP:>:: >::WORK OPM< >W. RK. OP
Meeting Date: 10/12/94
Agenda Item: N/A
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Discussion with Police Chief Dick Engstrom of the St.
Anthony Police Department
SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Adminstrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
On January 1, 1995 the St. Anthony Police Department will begin serving Falcon
Heights. The service will include a designated officer within the city limits for 24
hours a day. The service to Falcon Heights will complement, not detract from, the
service currently being provided to the Cities of Lauderdale and St. Anthony.
Representatives of the three cities will meet bi- monthly to discuss policing matters.
As the attachments explain, the St. Anthony Police Department philosophy has
historically been community oriented with alot of visibility and aggressive enforcement
of local ordinances.
The workshop is an opportunity to informally meet with the city's police chief (starting
January 1, 1995) and to exchange questions about policing in Falcon Heights.
ATTACHMENTS:
A Cover letter from Chief Engstrom, dated 7 April 1994
B St. Anthony Police Department Philsophy
C Community survey of policing, dated November, 1993
ACTION REQUESTED:
Ask questions and discuss policing in Falcon Heights with Chief Engstrom.
