FALCON HEIGHTS SOLID WASTE COMMISSION <br /> REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL <br /> January 25, 1995 <br /> 1994 Changes in Commission Membership: <br /> 1. Nancy Misra and Lyle Wray completed their terms on the Commission and <br /> Shirley Chenoweth retired as staff liaison. The Commission recognizes and <br /> thanks them for their many contributions. <br /> 2. The Commission welcomed new members Jeff Alexander, Barbara Leary, <br /> Catherine Mackiewicz, and Mary Pat McGinnis. Catherine is the Commission's <br /> first representative of the student community. The Commission also welcomed <br /> Carla Asleson as its new staff liaison. The Commission is at its full complement <br /> of members and looks forward to a productive and exciting year! <br /> 1994 Accomplishments: <br /> 1. Initiated and coordinated first city -wide garage sale (May 1994). Follow -up <br /> interviews of participants reflected overwhelmingly positive response. <br /> 2. Coordinated collection of used child car seats with Project ChildSafe and the <br /> Falcon Heights /Lauderdale Lions Club (July 1994). Collected 24 sears; 20 were <br /> unsafe and so were removed from circulation and four will be refurbished and <br /> distributed to low- income families. <br /> 3. Prepared and staffed recycling /solid waste information booth at Falcon Heights <br /> Ice Cream Social (July 1994). <br /> 4. Published Solid Waste Newsletter (December 1994). <br /> 1994 Activities: <br /> 1. Commissioner Barbara Leary scheduled presentation to Commission by Cathi <br /> Lyman -Onkka (Ramsey County) regarding area school curriculum on solid waste <br /> issues. <br /> 2. Vice -Chair Laura Kuettel toured the BFI landfill and recycling center, and <br /> presented report to the Commission. <br /> 3. Commission honored retiring staff liaison Shirley Chenoweth at a special dinner <br /> meeting with present and former commissioners. <br />
