Boulevard Tree Removal and Planting. <br /> Boulevard tree removals were done by S S Tree <br /> Service. Twenty -one American elms were removed (Table <br /> 1). Elm removal has remained constant the past four <br /> years (Table 2). There are 112 boulevard elms <br /> remaining. Four trees other than elms were removed <br /> (Table 3) due to disease or damage which created <br /> hazardous conditions. 1994 tree removal costs totaled <br /> $2,996.39. <br /> Twelve boulevard trees were planted in May for <br /> $1,025.18 to replace trees removed in 1993. Two white <br /> pines, donated by the Lion's Club, were planted in <br /> honor of retiring Shirley Chenoweth, City Clerk, and <br /> Vince Wright, City Public Works Supervisor at the Arbor <br /> Day program on May 7 at City Hall. <br /> B. Boulevard Tree Trimming. <br /> The third year of the five year trimming cycle involved <br /> trimming 168 boulevard trees in November on Albert, <br /> Holton, Pascal and Garden. A $4,000 Urban Community <br /> Challenge Grant for tree trimming permitted the city to <br /> trim 99 additional trees on California and Iowa. This <br /> accelerated the trimming cycle in 1994. 1994 tree <br /> trimming cost was $12,499.51. <br /> C. Tree City Awards <br /> The Tree City Awards program was held at the State <br /> Capitol on April 21, 1993. Falcon Heights was awarded <br /> a 1993 Tree City USA designation for its fifth <br /> consecutive year and a 1993 Tree City Growth Award for <br /> its third consecutive year. <br /> Qualifications for the Tree City Award include: 1) <br /> establishment of a tree board (our City Council and <br /> Clerk); 2) a Community Tree Ordinance; 3) a forestry <br />
