CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: March 7, 1995
TO: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
FROM: David W. Kriesel, Building Official
SUBJECT: Possible Building Damage and Recommendations for Corrections
Over the past several months I have been monitoring the leaching of efflorescence from the
mortar joints of the brick in the area of the conference room. My concern is the possible failure
that may happen by the weakening of these mortar joints due to the leaking roof. The good side is
that no bulging or cracking has occurred.
Another consequence of the leaking roof is the undermining of the concrete approach. As the
water from the roof finds its' course under the concrete, tunnels are being formed, causing the
concrete to settle.
Along with the replacement of the roof system, I recommend that the concrete be either jacked
back into place or removed, have the sand replenished and retamped and then have the concrete
replaced. Bids for this project would indicate which way would be the best approach.
