Meeting Date: 3/22/95 Agenda Item: c 5 CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: Authorization for the purchase of two personal computers for administrative /secretarial use and one personal computer with corresponding software conversions for finance /accounting use. SUBMITTED BY: Joe Rigdon, City Accountant REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: 1. Administrative /Secretarial Personal Computers Quotes have been received for two computers to replace the existing secretarial computers purchased in 1991 and 1992. The 1991 and 1992 computers will be provided to the public works and fire departments who currently have no computers. Quotes including sales tax (not including shipping) are as follows: Precision Computer Systems $4,036.35 PC Express 3,519.83 Gateway 2000 3,584.79 Bluestar 3,535.80 See Attachment B for comparisons between quotes. These computers are budgeted capital purchases for the 1995 General Capital Improvements Plan. It is recommended the two computers be purchased from PC Express at the lowest quoted cost of $3,519.83, also including additional hard drive memory and one additional floppy drive. 2. Finance /Accounting Personal Computer The current accounting system and hardware was purchased in 1990 and utilizes the UNIX operating system. A DOS based environment was not available at the time of purchase but is currently desirable in order for the PC to function as an application terminal. Utilizing a "hot key" procedure, a DOS platform will now enable the user to run simultaneous accounting, spreadsheet, and word processing applications. The current precision accounting software in place is an excellent system; however, conversion to DOS will provide an increase in efficiency. Attachment C summarizes the conversion costs of $4,400.00.
