SOCIAL <br />MEDIA <br />MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />JULY 8, 2015 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City <br />Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 8th day of July, <br />2015 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 Little <br />Canada Road in said City. <br />Mayor John Keis called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the <br />following members of the City Council were present at roll call: <br />CITY COUNCIL: Mayor <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator <br />City Attorney <br />Code Enforcement <br />Cable TV Producer <br />Intern <br />City Clerk <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />Mr. <br />Ms. <br />Mr. <br />Ms. <br />Ms. <br />John Keis <br />Tom Fischer <br />Michael McGraw <br />Rick Montour <br />Christian Torkelson <br />Joel R. Hanson <br />Chad Lemmons <br />Jessica Jagoe <br />Kevin Helander <br />Anna Leibel <br />Kathy Glanzer <br />Council Member Torkelson informed those present of his background <br />relative to social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter. Torkelson <br />stated that he was proposing that the City have a Facebook page. He <br />indicated that the use of social media is growing rapidly in all age ranges, <br />and is no longer the domain of the young or the tech savvy. Torkelson felt <br />use of social media was another method of getting information to the <br />public about their government, and would likely reach people that have <br />not be reached before. Torkelson also felt that the use of social media <br />promoted transparency in government, could be a creative way to solve <br />problems, would promote the Little Canada brand, would reach newer <br />residents, would increase civic participation, and increase satisfaction with <br />City communications. <br />Keis indicated that he and Council Member Torkelson and the City <br />Administrator recently attended the League of MN Cities Conference <br />where there were several sessions on social media. Some of that <br />information is included in the agenda packet this evening. Keis indicated <br />that there are a lot more cities using social media now than there were in <br />2012 when the Council first considered this issue. Keis felt that there <br />were a lot of great aspects in utilizing social media, but include that the <br />City must be prepare for the what, how, and scope of its use. Once this <br />use starts, the City must be prepared to keep it up. Keis indicated that <br />
