MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
MAY 12, 2005
could be to allow a business 2 banners each year with each banner
displayed fora 60 day period.
Knudsen agreed that banners are a good marketing tool for certain types of
businesses. Knudsen again stated that he was inclined to support White
Bear Lake's standard with an increase in size to 36 square feet.
The Commission again discussed banner size and the consensus again was
to allow 36 square feet with the indication that anything larger was too big
of a departure from the norm shown in the survey.
In discussing the number of temporary sign permits allowed and the
duration of days, the Commission agreed that the number of temporary
sign permits should be increased to 4 permits per year. The Commission
also felt that the total number of days should be increased to 120 days with
the stipulation that non-banner temporary signage would be limited to no
more Chan 60 days of that allocation.
Knudsen recommended approval of the amendment to the Zoning Code
relative to banners, real estate signs, and garage sale signs as outlined
below:
o Construction Signs - as recommended by the Code
Enforcement Officer;
o On-Site Real Estate Signs and Rental Signs - as
recommended by the Code Enforcement Officer;
o Off-Site Residential Real Estate Signs - as recommended
by the Code Enforcement Officer;
o Garage Sale Signs - as recommended by the Code
Enforcement Officer with Che expansion of this section to
include estate sale signs in addition to garage sale signs.
The Commission further noted that the provision should
specifically reference that these are "off premise" signs.
Banners - as recommended by the Code Enforcement
Officer with the following changes:
Addition of the word "solely" as described above;
Banner size limited to a maximum of 36 square
feet;
Banners to be mounted on building only as provided
for in CEO's recommendation (eliminating the
mounting of banners on pylon signs);
-13-
