M:LNLJTrS
CITY COUNCIL
MAI2CLI 23, 2005
The City Administrator felt that County Road B-2 should remain posted as
no parking given the additional traffic that will utilize that street due to the
Unweave the Weave project as well as fact that this street is heavily used
by walkers, runners, and bikers as a route around the lake. T1~e City
Adminish'ator suggested that he would have the Sheriff"s Department and
the City Engineer look at these streets and make a reconuroendation.
Montour noted that the City has been surveying residents for their opinion
when it has considered posting streets as no parking. The City
Administrator reported that resident surveys have been clone in response to
specific requests for parl<iog restrictions.
LeValle asked what prompted I3lesenei's interest in reconsidering the
parhing regulations being discussed. [3lesener rc >orted that he has had
four or five complaints about the restrictions. F[e noted that from the
survey information included in the packets, adjacent cities do not use the
designation of an on street trail as criteria for postin~~ a street as no
parking. L3lesener felt that there may be a need for no parking on one side
of the street, but not both.
Montour felt that pedestrian safety should be a consideration.
Mr. [3lesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RF_SOLUT/ON NO. 2005-3-72 - UlRECTlNG CITI'.STAFF %'0 P[IT
TOGEl7!!R A RL'COMMENDATION ON THE IS>S~UE OF PARKING
REGUI,AT/ON.S FOR THE FOLLOWING STREETS:
Ar^cnde S/reel (C;nrtwty Rnn~l D to ICc/ler Parkiva~~)
NlcMeneroiy S/reel (Lillie Canrrrlra Rnad to vihL~g Drina)
I/Ating brine (fly/cfl'/er~e»v~~ Ronrl to Erlgertn~~ Street)
Cor~r~tp Road B-2 (Edgerlo~a Street to Arcnrle .Street)
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Allan.
Ayes (>) (3lesener, Allan, I<eis.
1yays (2) Montour, LaValle. Resolution declared adopted.
Montour felt that whether or not to post a street as no parking was not a
trafi~ic safety issue, but rather a pedesh~ian safety issue. Montour felt that
if one side of the street is going Yo be posted as no parking, property
owners along the street should have input.
Blesener pointed out that the City does not build roads for people to walk
on, but rather for people to drive on. Montour indicated that in some cases
