MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 8, 2005
OUTDOOR Blesener noted the City's moratorium Conditional Use Permits for
STORAGE outdoor storage in the I-P District while the City studies this issue.
IN THE Blesener suggested that the Planning Commission take another look
d-P DISTRICT at this issue from the perspective of whether the City wants to continue to
allow outdoor storage at all in the I-P District. Blesener suggested that as
other urban cities eliminate outdoor storage in their higher end industrial
districts, these uses will move to the cities with zoning standards allowing
this use. Blesener also pointed out the City's efforts to redevelop and
upgrade properties, and suggested that the elimination of outdoor storage
in the I-P District would be another step in that direction. Blesener
pointed out that if Chis zoning standard is changed, existing outdoor
storage uses in the I-P District would be grandfathered in. It would be
new uses that would not be allowed.
Knudsen pointed out that when the Planning Commission looked at the
issue it did not have a lot of specificity as to what the end game was.
Allan stated that she did not have a problem with outdoor storage when it
is done correctly with the properCy screening and landscaping.
Blesener again expressed concern that as other cities tighten their zoning
standards relative to outdoor storage, Little Canada will attract businesses
that have outdoor storage needs. He pointed out that outdoor storage adds
nothing to the City's tax base.
Knudsen agreed that the Planning Commission will consider the matter at
their next meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
~~
William Blesener, or
`. Joel ~-Ianson, City Administrator
