MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 22, 2005
no outdoor storage, the CUP process gives the City control over the type
and screening of outdoor storage. Therefore, he could live with 25% of
the building size in outdoor storage. Keis stated that he also wanted to
dress up the face of Little Canada, and could support the prohibition of
outdoor storage for properties Chat have visibility to 35E. Keis stated that
at this point, however, he would support a small amount of outdoor
storage under a CUP process that gives the City flexibility and control
Allan agreed. She noted the vacant property in front of 3250 Spruce Street
and noted that she would not object to the development of a nice building
on that site with a little outdoor storage that is properly fenced and
screened.
Blesener pointed out that the union hall is a very nice developmenC that
required no outdoor storage.
The Council discussed the location of outdoor storage if it were to
continue to be allowed in the I-P District. The consensus of the Council
was to support the limitation of outdoor storage to the rear yard only.
At this point, Blesener summarized the consensus of the Council. Outdoor
storage in the I-P District could consist of up to 25% of the building area
or 10% of the property area, whichever is less. Outdoor storage would be
limited to the rear of the property and would have to be fenced and
screened as recommended by the Planning Commission. Blesener
suggested that action on the Zoning Code amendment be tabled at this
point and that those property owners with property zoned I-P be invited to
the July 27`h Council meeting to hear their input on the issue.
Ms. Allan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2005-6-134 -CONTINUING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE ZONING CODE AMENDMENT RELATIVE TO
OUTDOOR STORAGE UNTIL THE JULY 27, 2005 CITY COUNCIL
MEETING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Keis.
Ayes (5) Allan, Keis, Montour, Blesener, LaValle.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Blesener instructed staff to notify the I-P property owners, and instructed
the City Planner to prepare the appropriate ordinance amendment based on
the Council's consensus this evening.
6
