MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE l 1, 2008
are increasing. Blesener suggested that whatever agreement is reached, it
should be noted in the agreement that there will be no renewal of the IUP.
Nick Frattalone asked if the 2 to 3 years would be beyond the 2009 date.
Blesener suggested 2 years from 2009. Frattalone felt that 5 years was
more realistic in this economy.
McGraw asked about decreasing the height of the piles to a 20 foot
maximum. Frattalone stated that he has to have 30,000 to 40,000 ton
before crushing is economically feasible. Frattalone also noted that the
crushed material still needs to be sold. Blesener pointed out that the
transportation bill will create more money for road construction.
Frattalone pointed out that this additional money will not be available until
2009. He further noted that most of the recycled material is used for
private parking lots and County road projects.
The City Administrator suggested that a subcommittee be formed to work
with Mr. Frattalone on a proposal. Frattalone agreed. He also noted that
he will work on the dust issues reported by the Council this evening.
The consensus was that Council Members Keis and Montour, as well as
Planning Commissioner Tom Duray, form the committee to work with
Frattalone. The City Administrator was instructed to set up the first
meeting.
The Administrator asked if the Council wanted information verifying pile
height as well as dust levels. The consensus was that this information was
not needed at this time.
It was the consensus of those present that once the committee has a
recommendation, that recommendation will be brought back to the
Council for review.
ECONOMIC The City Administrator reviewed the on-going and future redevelopment
DEVELOPMENT efforts that are underway or planned in the City. These include the
Sherman projects at Rice Street and Little Canada Road, the
redevelopment of the former Knox and Levitz buildings, the St. Jude
Medical expansion, McDonald's redevelopment, as well as future projects
including CV S Pharmacy, Culver's Restaurant, and possibly a Comfort's
of Home and office building development on the former County property
on Rice Street and Country Drive.
6
