MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 3, 2004
Two other trails that are on hold pending the County's road reconstruction are on Vadnais
Boulevard and on Centerville Road. The Director was unsure of the County's completion dates
on those projects.
Sanders will complete a listing of unfinished trail projects for next month's meeting. The list
can then be finalized for presentation to the Council.
ICE CREAM Steinert stated that the ice cream social is scheduled on Thursday, August 5, 2004. Due to
SOCIAL budget cuts, Maplewood's puppet show will not be available Chis year. However, the Little
Canada Fire Department will be in attendance. SteinerC has called the Sheriff's Department
about the K-9 demonstration, but has not heard back from them. He asked the Commission to
think about a replacemenC for the puppet show. He felt that the replacement event should be
geared towards youths.
The Director suggested thaC Steinert contact Little Canada Program Coordinator Derek
Anderson for ideas on youth events. Roseville used to have a puppet show and Derek may
know if it is still available.
Steinert stated that he and his sons will deliver flyers to the local businesses advertising the ice
cream social. The Director will contact A&W Rootbeer to see if they are interested in
participating in this year's event. He will also check into obtaining the ice cream freezer from
Falcon Heights.
TRAIL BIDS Sanders stated that advertisement for bids on the 2004 trail projects is out with the bid opening
to occur on June 15. The completion date on the specifications is November 1, 2004.
DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items:
REPORT
The DNR has stocked Gervais Mill pond with crappies and sunfish since most fiā¢oze out this
winter. They have also expressed interest in stocking Round Lake and suggested that a
fishing pier be constructed as part of the new park adjacent to the lake.
The Spooner Park and the Firefighter's Memorial Trail entrance signs need approval.
Sanders will finalize the plans for these signs for presentation at next month's meeting.
JULY Sackett Glaser suggested that next month's meeting be changed due to its close proximity to the
MEETING July 4`h holiday weekend. The Commission tentative changed the meeting from July 1 to June
30. The Director will contact the members absent to make sure the change is okay and then he
will send an e-mail out to everyone to confirm the date change.
