MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 30, 2004
Sanders suggested pursuing informal bids on these projects. He felt that the signs could be bid
first, and then the landscaping and other components could be bid at a later date. The
Commission agreed with this idea.
Sanders commented that the entrance to Gervais Mill Park off Edgerton Street looks very nice.
The Commission commended the Parks Maintenance Department for their work in maintaining
this area.
NOEL DR Sackett Glaser stated that she felt the Council misinterpreted the Commission's position on
WATERSHED this matter. It was her understanding that the Commission preferred to see the Noel Drive
PROPOSAL property left as open space. However, if a proposal came along that was interesting and was a
good fit, they would be willing to explore the option. The Commission agreed with Sackett
Glaser's understanding on this matter.
Sackett Glaser stated that she did not like the fact that the building has grown from a 3,500
square foot size to 6,400 square feet and questioned what components were added to the o~7ginal
building design. She felt the building was too big for the lot and did not like the prominent
location of the parking lot. She suggested that parking be "tucked into" the site so that it does
not appear to dominate the area. The Commission agreed. Sanders stated that the relationship
between the Watershed District office and the creek at Gervais Mill is a strong concept that
could compliment the whole area. Sackett Glaser stated that with some creativity, she felt a
plan could be developed that would compliment the area. Sanders suggested atwo-story
building be explored with a smaller footprint.
Sackett Glaser recommended preferring open space over the Watershed's present concept for
the properly ozz Noel Drive, but also expressizzg a willingness to explore other options as long
as they incorporate the Commission's vision for the area.
Motion seconded by Gray.
Motion carried 4 - 0.
llIREC'1'OR'S The Director reported on the following items:
REPORT
Youth recreation registration is scheduled on July 8 & 15 for after school basketball, soccer
clinic, soccer league, and volleyball.
