MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />August 4, 2004 <br />,IRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items: <br />I2EI'ORT <br />• A plan for Che park storage building at Spooner Park was presented. This building will be <br />constructed where the existing building is now. The old building will be demolished. The <br />new building will feature space for Canadian Days and the LCRA. The cost of this building <br />is approximately $85,000. $60,000 has already been received from a donation. Additional <br />donation requests have been made to both Canadian Days and the LCRA for the remaining <br />funds. <br />• The Parks & Recreation Department will be featuring articles in the City newsletter <br />promoting our parks. An example was given to the Commission to review. These articles <br />will be placed in every issue depending on space availability. <br />• The litterbags have not been working as well as expected. Some residents do not use them. <br />Others pull more Chan one out at a Cime thereby wasting them. If nothing else, the bags are a <br />reminder to residents to clean up after their pets. <br />• The ice cream social is scheduled for tomorrow night. Commissioners should arrive at 6 <br />p.m. at Spooner Park and the ice cream will begin being served at 6:30 p.m. A&W Root <br />Beer will not be providing staff so Commission members will be dispensing root beer as <br />well as serving the ice cream. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Department is anticipating three <br />handlers and three dogs for the K-9 demonstration. Roseville Parks and Recreation is <br />providing the puppet show and two fire Mucks from the Little Canada Fire Department will <br />be on display. Flyers were distributed to area businesses. <br />• The youth 3 on 3 basketball Tournament will be held this Saturday during Canadian Days. <br />Nine teams have registered for this event. <br />• Registrations are still being accepted for after school basketball, soccer clinic, soccer league, <br />and volleyball. <br />• Adult fall softball is scheduled to begin the week of August 16. Registrations are still being <br />accepted. <br />• Parkkeeper Greg Hoag has accepted afull-time job with the City of Falcon Heights as their <br />Public Works Director. His last day of employment with Little Canada is Monday. The <br />City is currently advertising for his replacement.
