VARIANCE Mayor Fahey noted that the Planning Commission has tabled action on I'RODI SIGN Aldi Foods' request for Variance firom the Sign Ordinance to allow two ORDINANCE - building suns plus one pylon sign at ?350 Rice Street. Ayes (5) LaValle, Fahey, Montour, Anderson, Blesener. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. The Council noted that the Planning Commission has asked for their comments on the Aldi sign request. Blesener tielt that the request for three signs did not seem out-of-line, and pointed out that there are several businesses along Rice Sheet that have Three signs LaValle stated that he felt the A,Idi request was a reasonable one. Anderson asked that City staff report on the 5 or 6 sign examples raised by Aldi )woods at the Planning Commission meeting, explaining the factors that existed that would allow these businesses to have three signs. Fahey felt reasonableness of the Aldi request was not the issue, noting that there is no hardship that exists to warrant granting a variance. Fahey indicated that if the feeling is that three signs should be allowed, then a Text Amendment would be the appropriate course of action. The City Administrator noted that the sign examples raised by Aldi Foods were fa' businesses that are either located on corner lots, are part of multi- tenant buildings, or have had master sign plans approved by CUP. The Administrator reported that the Code Enforcement Officer is preparing a report on the signag~e examples raised by Aldi Foods, and that report will be submitted to Che Planning Commission.
