The 60 square foot sign area will meet code along with the height <br />of the sign. <br />The original plans submitted showed a monument sign to the southeast of the building. <br />The applicant has constructed a 5 foot tall monument sign with 8 square feet of sign <br />area. The new proposal seeks to change the sign to a directional sign. The zoning <br />ordinance permits directional signage for businesses as follows: 4 directional signs with <br />a maximum of 4 square feet per sign. The City Council has the authority to consider <br />alternative directional signage. <br />The applicant is seeking to have one sign at 8 square feet. The City has made <br />modifications such as this in the past. Staff believes that the access to the property <br />from the Viking Drive location is a reasonable justification to approve the larger <br />directional sign, with the understanding that overall directional signage would be capped <br />at a level below the maximum allowed by code. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The proposed signage of the applicant is generally consistent with the City's <br />architectural guidelines and City Code. As such, our office recommends approval of the <br />architectural review permit subject to the following conditions: <br />1.
