Nicldeson indicated that he is trying to recognize the nostalgia and history of A & W through this signage proposal. 7"he City Planner indicated that a certain amount of window signage is exempted fi om the Code. Therefore, the neon window signs would be acceptable. Knudsen suggested that Mr. Nicldeson develop a signage plan for the pro~>erty that is in compliance with the Code. The City Planner reported that the height and width of the two street frontages as well as the square footage of the building would be needed to calculate die amount of square footage of signage allowed wider the ordinance. The Planner further noted that the Code allows for a total of three signs for this property, that being two wall signs and one pylon sign. Keis suggested that rather than deny the Variance tonight, drat Mr. Nicldeson meet with Che City Planner to determine the actual amount of signage allowed. I{eis suggested drat this matter be tabled until the December meeting. Nicldeson indicated that his intent is to update the property to ensure that his customers have a good experience. Nicldeson indicated that the signage plan submitted was suggested by die A & ~'N corporate office. Knudsen indicated that the City has many corporate businesses, and if it allowed signage as proposed by the corporate office, it would end up with "a dog's breakfast". Knudsen suggested that there iroay be a creative way to accomplish what Nicldeson is seeking while complying with the City's Codes. Knudsen recommended tabling the Variance to exceed the number of wall signs allowed as well as Architectural Review of the proposed signage for A & W at 3006 Rice Street until the December 9, 2004 Planning Commission meeting.
