-IINIiTEs
PLANNTiVG COVIt~IISSION
OCTOBER 14, 2004
BOOSTER current system utilizes a dedicated telephone line. However, given
STATION problems with that system that have resulted in low water levels in the
water tower, the Public Works Director is recommending a radio system.
This system necessitates the construction of an approximately 40 foot high
tower. The Public Worls Director submitted a site plan and tower
diagram for the Commission's review.
The Commission asked about shared use of the tower by cellular
providers, suggesting that perhaps these providers could construct the
tower and the City co-locate its antenna ou it. The Public Works Director
indicated that given the low elevation of the booster station site, the tower
would have to be at least twice the height to be usable for a cellular
provider. tt was also noted that there is already a cellular tower fiirther
west on County Road B.
Keis indicated that he has no problem with the tower proposed, but
expressed concern that Qwest is unable to provide the City with a reliable
means of telephone communication between the water tower and booster
station. The Public Wor(s Director agreed, but indicated that ,given the
low power signal that is utilized, it seems that there is more likelihood for
interference problems. The Director indicated that testing has been done
to ensure that the tower with the antenna proposed will resolve the
problem.
Rheaume noted the differences in prices given that unidirectional and bi-
directional antennas were quoted. "Che Director indicated his prefere~lce
for the bi-directional antenna since information would be available to
Public Works at either the water tower site or the booster station site.
I{nudsen recommended approval of the Conditional Use Permit to allow
installation of a 40-foot high antenna tower at the Little Canada Water
Booster Station located at 141 County Road B >/ast as requested by the
Public Works Director.
Motion seconded by Weihe.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
RESTRICTIONS The City Planner indicated that there have been discussions about the
ON ACCESSORY number of requests for Conditional Use Permits for oversized and/or
SI3EDS second garages, and whether or not in these cases accessory storage sheds
should be prohibited. The issue is ~-whether the ability to have an accessory
storage shed on a property should be traded off for the extra garage space
being granted Ir, tonditional Use Permit.
