MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 28, 2004 <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Anderson. <br />Ayes (4) Montour, Anderson, Blesener, Fahey. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />HISTORICAL Mayor Fahey thanked the Historical Society for their $5,000 donation <br />SOCIETY toward repayment of the cost of the Historical Society Addition to the <br />DONATION City Center. <br />VARIANCE Mayor Fahey opened the Public Hearing to consider the Aldi Foods <br />TOR SIGN - request for a Variance to allow two building signs plus one pylon sign <br />2350 RICE at 2350 Rice Street. Fahey noted that the Planning Commission has <br />STREET - recommended denial of the Variance request, but is recommending <br />ALDI POO,DS approval of a text amendment which would allow the signage as requested <br />based on consideration that the access road for the Bally's site on the <br />south of the Aldi Foods property makes the Aldi property a corner lot. <br />Mike Eggers, Aldi Foods, indicated that Aldi Foods supported the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission. <br />Blesener noted the Code Enforcement Officer's report that indicates some <br />of the existing signage situations could be addressed through a master sign <br />plan. Blesener asked why a master sign plan was not being used for the <br />Aldi property. The City 'Planner replied that master sign plans are utilized <br />for multi-tenant buildings or properties that are zoned PUD. <br />Fahey noted that there is not hardship present that would warrant the <br />approval of the Variance being requested. <br />There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on <br />this matter. <br />Upon motion by Fahey, seconded by Montour, the public hearing was <br />closed. <br />Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOI_ UTION NO. 2004-4-79 -DENYING THE VARIANCE FROM <br />THE SIGN ORDINANCE TO ALLOW TWO BUILDING SIGNS PLUS <br />ONE PYLON SIGN AS REQUESTED 73YA7_DI FOODS FOR 2350 <br />RICE STREET IIASED ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE <br />PLANNING COMMLS'.S'IONAND THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO <br />HARDSKIP PRESENT TO WARRANT GRANTING THE VARIANCE <br />2 <br />
