MINUTRS OT THE WORKSIIOI' MEETING
CITY COUNCIL
,LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City
Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 9th day of June,
2004 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 Little
Canada Road in said City.
JUNE 9, 2004
Mayor Michael I. Hanson
Mr. Greg Schroeder
Ms. Jan Wiesner
Mr. Terry Noonan
Mr. Cliff Aichinger
Mr. F3randon Rickert
Ms. Kathy Glanzer
WEST The purpose of this workshop meeting is to review the details relative
VADNAIS to the West Vadnais Lake outlet and its impacts on Little Canada and
OUTLET Gervais Lake.
'ferry Noonan, Ramsey County, appeared before the C;owicil and reported
that about a year ago the County requested an evaluation of the potential
fa' establishing an outlet for West Vadnais Lake- Oue of the reasons for
dais request is that in periods of high water levels in West Vadnais Lake,
water levels are threatening the road surface of Rice Street. Noonan
pointed out that there are three different water management organizations
involved in this evaluation, Grass Lake Water Management Organization,
Vadnais Lake Area Water Management Organization, and the
Ramsey/Washington Metro Watershed District.
Noonan described the historical drainage of the area which included
inflows into West Vadnais bake from Grass Lake via uncertain pathways.
West Vadnais then flowed into Blacktern Pond, then south into the
Gervais Lake Ditch and eventually into Gervais Lake. In the 1960's when
694 was constructed, these drainage pathways were blocked. Noonan
reported that there was also a secondary outlet from West Vadnais into
Twin Lake that was obstructed as the result of a fill project in the area.
