MINUTES
CITY COUNCII.
JUNE 9, 2004
Dave Schweitz, Gervais Lake Association, indicated that he has lived on
the lake for 3 '/z years and it is apparent to him that lake levels are rising.
In indicated that he will have to make improvements to the retaining wall
in the front of his property because of the rising water levels. Schweitz
indicated that the fluctuations in water levels are occurring faster.
Aichinger reported that he recently heard a presentation from the State
climatologist who reported that the State is not getting greater amounts of
rain. What is happening is that the rain is coming in larger storm events.
Aichinger indicated that this is a difficult situation to manage.
Nardini asked the authority for storing storm water on her property.
Aichinger pointed out that the water is public and there has always been
private land adjacent to public lakes. Aichinger indicated that the normal
lake level for Gervais Lake has been 860 for the past 20 years. He
indicated, however, that the level of the lake bounces based on diy periods
and storm events.
Nardini noted that the lake is posted as "no wake" when its level exceeds
860. Nardini indicated that Gervais has been above 860 most of the
summer.
Fahey suggested that the legal description for a lake property may
indicated the boundary as the shore of the lake. This boundary does
fluctuate with the lake level.
Fahey thanked the County and the Watershed for their presentation this
evening. Fahey felt that the Watershed was on top of the West Vadnais
outlet project and would protect the interests of Little Canada. Fahey
encow aged the Watershed to make sw~e there are formal agreements in
place to ensure the Watershed's control of the outlet.
There being no further business, the workshop meeting was adjourned at
7:03 p.m. +~
.-. _ ___
Mich el I. Fahey, Mayor
Attest:
Joel .Hanson, City Administrator
6
