MINUT)JS <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />OCTOI3LR 27, 2004 <br />money might be better directed toward other capital improvement needs. <br />The Council decided to leave the dollars allocated as proposed, with <br />further discussion of this item at a Inter date. <br />The Council reviewed the Fire Department portion of capital improvement <br />expenses, noting that $125,000 has been allocated toward the cost of roof <br />replacement "T'here was discussion of on-going problems with the roof, <br />and the Fire Chief indicated that the roof will be inspected by an <br />independent inspection firm. Once that inspection report is completed, a <br />plan of action will be developed for either repairs or replacement. <br />The Chief noted that $37,960 has been allocated toward 500 mhz radios, <br />with Che Administrator this includes a $1,995 subsidy per radio. Purchase <br />of these radios during 2005 will allow for collection of this subsidy. It <br />was also noted that the budget includes replacement of Truck #l2 in 2006. <br />The City Administrator anticipated that the Fire Department would defray <br />part of the cost of this truck replacement with charitable gambling foods. <br />Additional research will occur on the timing of the replacement. <br />The Administrator reviewed the Old Fire Hall portion of the budget noting <br />that furnace replacemem iu the upper level of the building is anticipated in <br />2006. <br />In reviewing the Parks & Recreation capital improvement budget, items <br />highlighted include replacement of the ] 992 truck.. Jt was noted that this <br />replacement will continue to be moved out as long as possible. <br />Replacement of a large mower is anticipated in 2006 as well as a truckster. <br />2005 also includes replacement of a rink sweeper and possible purchase of <br />a broadcast spreader. The City Adminisu'ator indicated that the City <br />currently borrows a broadcast spreader when it has the need for one. <br />However, if that option is no longer available, we may need to purchase <br />ow' own. <br />The Council reviewed the Park Improvements, Recreation Facilities <br />Improvements, and Trails/Park Development po~~ions of the capital <br />budget as presented. Fahey asked if consideration had been given to the <br />installation of canopies over dugouts. The Parks & Recreation Director <br />indicated that he has researched this issue with the M:N Parks & <br />Recreation Association, and found that canopies are more suitable for <br />folds with daytime play. 'the City's fields get primarily evening usage, <br />except for very limited tournament usage on the weekends. <br />Montour indicated that he would like to see a flag pole installed at Pioneer <br />Park The Parks & Recreation Director suggested that they discuss this <br />issue and develop a plan. <br />2 <br />
