MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 8, 2003
The Mayor indicated his feeling that as part of the consolidation of some
of the City's recreation programs with other cities, Little Canada has lost a
means of promoting its identity. He suggested that as part of the
partnership that the City formed with the Roseville Fastpitch Association,
and in return for the use of Little Canada facilities by this organization,
that the Parks & Recreation Department negotiate the ability for Little
Canada residents to place a Little Canada designation on team hats or
uniforms. The Parks & Recreation Director reported that his Department
has addressed this issue unsuccessfully in the past with the Fastpitch
Association. He indicated, however, that they would try again. The
Council supported the Mayor's suggestion that the Recreation Department
attempt to negotiate with the Roseville Fastpitch Association the addition
of individual community identification for players. However, that
negotiation should be without detriment to the program. It was also noted
that given that the Cities of Little Canada, Roseville, Falcon Heights,
Shoreview, and Lauderdale have residents participating in the fastpitch
program sponsored by the Roseville Fastpitch Association, a more
appropriate name might be "North Suburban Area Fastpitch Association".
Blesener pointed out the difficulty in community name recognition for
cities without a high school that carries the community's name. Montour
also noted that there are strong feelings on the part of Little Canada
Recreation Association members with the lost community identity for
Little Canada residents that participate in recreation associations that lack
the Little Canada name.
The Council discussed the addition of the City's logo or other means of
City identification on the back wall of the Council Chambers. It was
noted that the cablecast of Council meetings does include the City's logo
on the television screen. The City Administrator suggested that he come
back to the Council with some proposals for enhancement of the Council
Chambers back wall.
There being no further business, the workshop meeting adjourned at 7:30
p.m.
i r)
Mic el I.
