Resolution declared adopted.
GOOS.1; The Council reviewed the results of the survey conducted by Dr. Cooper
CONTROL of the U of M relative to the size of the goose population in the City as
well as Coopers recommendation to proceed with the goose round-up.
Fahey also noted the information provided by Dr. Cooper about the
ineffectiveness of~egg addling in controlling the goose population.
Bonnie Chester, resident on east Savage Lal<e, indicated that she supported
the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 which states that birds are free to
roam. Chester expressed concern with spending City dollars to round up
approximately b0 geese. Chester felt that the goose population was
significantly reduced from what it had been a few years ago. She also
indicated that she would like to Irnow the DNR's position on the
effectiveness of egg addling.
Fahey pointed out that Ur. Cooper reports that the DNR does not grant
permits for egg addling except for research projects. Dr. Cooper also
indicates that the DNR has found egg addling to be an ineffective method
of controlling geese populations.
