MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 17, 2003
Anderson asked if there have been any additional conversations with Brady's.
O'Kane reported that Brady's does not want pull-tabs sold from a booth, but
would allow pull-tabs sold from the bar or from a machine. Gambling Control
has indicated that they will only approve a premise permit at Brady's that
iirvolves a freestanding pull-tab booth staffed by the charitable organization.
Fahey indicated that he was not willing to make a decision on the request for a
premise permit at the bingo hall without the involvement of the other charities.
Fahey, suggested, Therefore, that the matter be tabled until the January 14°i
meeting. Fahey also suggested that the Council be provided with information
relative to the budget needed for Canadia~r Days to determine whether the
request for a premise permit at the bingo hall is reasonable.
Anderson agreed that the matter should be tabled until January 14'x'. He also
suggested that the City Administrator contact the Gambling Control Board to
determine what the options are for the Brady's site. Fahey stated that he has had
some discussions with the owners of Brady's, and they feel they are being
treated differently from other pull-tab sites in that the State will not approve a
premises permit for the sale of pull-tabs from the bar. Fahey agreed that the
City should contact Gambling Control to determine the issues/options.
It was the consensus of the Council to table action on Canadian Days' request
for a premises pernit at the bingo hall until the January 14°' meeting. The
Council requested that all the other charitable gambling organizations operating
in the City be invited to that meeting and that Canadian Days provide budget
information for the Council's review.
FIRE The Little Canada Fire Department requested the City waive its 10% fee
DEPARTMENT'S requirement on the proceeds from a benefit ra$le that it recently held for
REQUEST FOR Troy Natus. The'Department noted that Troy Natus is a 23-year-old Roseville
WAIVER OF resident that is in need of a heart transplant.
IO% FEE
Council reviewed the request and noted that the proceeds from the benefit raflle
are earmarked for NJr. Natus and exempted from the 10% requirement. All
proceeds from pull-tab sales that occurred during the raffle would be subject to
the 10% requirement.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RE$'OI UTION NO. 2003-12-285 -EXEMPTING THE PROCEEDS FROM
THE TROYNATUS 13ENEFIT RAFFLE FROM THE CITY'S 10%
REQUIREMENT
