MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />DECEMBER 17, 2003 <br />Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution acrd moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003-I2-284-RATIFYING THE 2(104 CAPITAL, <br />IMPROVEMENT PL,ANAS RECOMMENDED ]3Y THE CITY <br />ADMINISTRATOR <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Blesener, Montour, Anderson. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />CANADIAN Mary Ann O'Kane, Canadian Days Committee, appeared before the Council <br />DAYS - requesting approval for a premises permit at the Little Canada Bingo Hall. <br />REQUEST O'Kane reported that Canadian Days currently sells pull-tabs at Saxon Lanes. <br />FOR BINGO The gambling activity at this site is very low, and Canadian Days will soon <br />PREMISES be out of compliance because of this. O'Kane reported that Canadian Days' <br />PERMIT gambling license expires on March 31s~; therefore, they would like to include an <br /> application for a premises permit at the bingo hall as a part of their license <br /> renewal application. O'Kane also reported that it is her understanding that two <br /> nights per week are necessary to be successful at the bingo hall, therefore, she <br /> would like to request a premise permit for two nights. It was noted that the <br /> gambling licenses and premise permits for Millennium Charity Plus and North <br /> Suburban Youth Association are up for renewal in early 2004. Both of these <br /> organizations currently have premise permits at the bingo hall. <br />Anderson asked the cost of putting on the Canadian Days Celebration. O'Kane <br />reported that she did not have the cost figures for the Celebration with her this <br />evening, but indicated that she knows it takes $25,000 in gambling revenue to <br />put on Canadian Days. L~ addition to this $25,000, there is revenue from <br />donations as well as income generated at the Celebration itself. O'Kane noted <br />that Canadian Days previously had apull-tab operation at The Venetian Inn, but <br />lost that location when the restaurant closed. <br />Fahey noted that after The Venetian site closed, the other charities operating <br />gambling sites iu the City made contributions to Canadian Days to offset their <br />loss of gambling revenues rather than giving up any of the their sites. Anderson <br />noted that this was a temporary agreement with the charities with the hope that <br />Canadian Days would obtain apull-tab site at Brady's within a short period of <br />time. <br />Montour asked if Canadian Days and the Historical Society could share a day at <br />the bingo hall. O'I{ane replied that the gambling laws do not allow for any <br />shared resources among charities. <br />6 <br />
