MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
March 24, 2003
Another resident expressed concern about the park entrance across from Bryan Street. She
stated that entrance will be busy and she didn't care to be looking at the park. Sackett Glaser
stated that the City is willing to work with residents on screening issues such as the use of
landscaping.
A resident expressed concern about the setback of the play area from the street. Sanders stated
that the play area will be about 50 feet back from the street. The resident felt this was too close
to the sheet. Sackett Glaser stated that the play area was originally planned back further, but the
neighbors felt it should be kept in open view for safety.
A resident asked if bike racks were going to be installed. The Director stated that they are not
plamred, but can be added. He stated that bike racks do not typically get a lot of use and have
been removed from some other parks.
A resident asked how long construction trucks will be traveling on Jackson Street. The Director
stated that the actual construction should not take very long. The total project will last
throughout the summer, but the presence of larger trucks and equipment will be more
concentrated for short periods.
A resident asked what was planned for the property where the Stadler house was torn down.
The Director stated that he was unaware of any plans for that site. He stated that the area will be
seeded and mowed by the City. A resident commented that the mailboxes associated with the
former home should be removed since papers are still being delivered.
A resident asked if landscaping will be added around to the pond to discourage the kids from
playing near the water. Sanders stated that plantings could be added to keep the kids away from
the pond and prairie grass can be used to keep geese away.
The residents present stated that they are happy with the park plans and look forward to the
installation of the children's play area. They also thanked the Commission for their work on the
park.
Gray recommended accepting the bid received frorn Park Construction for the construction of
Rondean Park and recommending the advertisement for bids on the play area for that park
Motion seconded by Crary.
Motion: carried 4 - 0.
