MEMORANDUM
Date: June 23, 2003
To: City of Little Canada Planning Commission Members
From: Michael R. Melloy
Coliseum Billiards, Inc.
The Marketplace
2900 Rice Street
Little Canada, MN 55113
Re: Extension of Hours Request
Coliseum Billiards respectfully requests an extension of its hours ofoperation fi•om the current
closing time of 2:00 a.m. to an optional closing time of 4:00 a.m. in order to be competitive in the
market.
The regular hours ofoperation for pool rooms in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities suburbs
is to 4:00 a.m. and later: CR's and Bif's in Coon Rapids, Shooters and Q-Sharks in Burnsville, Fat
Boys in Minneapolis, Jimmy's in Columbia Heights and Billiard Street Cafe in Fridley. Since
Coliseum Billiards began operating in May 2000, we have become afamily-oriented billiard room
where young and old can play pool, billiards and snooker in a clean, spacious and secure setting.
Coliseum Billiards diligently enforces the Ramsey County curfew laws. We have not experienced any
problems that have adversely impacted our neighbors, Little Canada or surrounding communities.
Coliseum Billiards has accomplished just what our mission statement proposes, that is, to provide our
patrons with high quality and exceptionally well maintained pool and billiard equipment in attractive
surroundings, the opportunity for casual and serious players to compete, and a setting for family
leisure time entertainment in a safe and secure atmosphere. The option to operate unti14:00 am. will
enable us better compete in the Twin Cities pool and billiard market.
Please note that, based on our experience, we anticipate that ColiseumBilliards would remain
open unti14:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, since our volume of business on the remaining
nights of the week usually does not warrant a closing later than 2:00 a.m.
Thank you for your consideration.
