MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
March 7, 2002
• Staff has been working the concession stand at the softball fields the past few years due
to a lack of interest from any private individual or group. However, this year a person
has expressed interest in taking on the concession stand.
• 55 Alive Driver Classes scheduled at the end of this month are all full.
• Co-Rec Adult Volleyball is very popular with 12-20 people showing up every Friday for
the event.
• Men's Over 35 Open Basketball is a new offering that has also had success with 8-10
people coming every night.
• The woodchip trails at Gervais Mill Park are hard to maintain and maneuver. Grass
keeps growing through the chips and the chips need to be replaced often. An aglime
surface may work out better, while still keeping the natural look that is desired for that
park. Sanders stated that aglime will work fine in many areas of the park, but there are a
few areas that may require blacktop. The Director asked Sanders to present rough costs
at the next meeting on aglime and blacktop so that fiords can be budgeted in the future.
CABLE TV Schabacker stated that the sound on Channel 16 during the Council meetings is very poor and
seems to have been getting worse. The Director explained that staff is obtaining pricing on
new cameras to improve our system. Pechman commented that soon our residents will be
able to watch Council meetings on-line by linking from our web site over to CTV 15.
ARBOR DAY The Director stated that the Arbor Day celebration needs to be scheduled. Last year, we held
it on the last Friday in April. The Commission wished to schedule it during the same week
this year. The event will take place on Friday, April 26, 2002 at 1 p.m. School children will
be invited again this year. Trees will be planted and refreshments served.
ADJOURN Sclzabacker recommended that the meeting be adjouraerb
Motion seconded by Gray.
Motima carried 7 - 0.
There being no fiu-ther business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
submitted,
~.~ ,,
L-(;''(/r~'/~l.(-.pile`-~ ~,
