MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />March 7, 2002 <br />The Commission felt that the date of the concert could be decided later. Horwath stated that <br />she will help to coordinate the event and contact the band regarding their availability. <br />GOAL Schabacker stated that a Goal Setting Session was held on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 <br />SETTING with the Mayor, City Council and staff Sackett Glaser and Schabacker attended representing <br />SESSION the Parks & Recreation Commission. The Director was also present. The persons in <br />attendance developed a list of 34 goals, and then each person ranked this list to come up with <br />the top ten for action this year. The Director passed out a list of the 34 goals and how they <br />were ranked to each Commission Member. <br />One of the top ten goals was to identify/resolve issues regarding the Turnquist/Palmen <br />property. The Director gave the Commission some background information on this issue. <br />He stated that the property owners in the area are concerned about construction along the <br />wetland and aesthetics. They would like the area to be publicly owned. These property <br />owners are scheduled to address the Council at their next meeting. The Director stated Chat <br />the Council may refer this issue back to the Commission for their recommendation. The <br />Director commented that the property is 27 acres and 3/0 of it is high-level wetland that cannot <br />be developed. <br />RONDEAU The Director and Sanders met with staff regarding the Rondeau Park development and they <br />PARK decided to tie the bidding process in with the street improvements this year to get better <br />pricing. A few minor changes were made to the plans by staff. Bid requests will go out iu <br />April with work to begin this summer. <br />The Director stated that the neighbors should again be invited to attend a meeting after the <br />bids come in, but before a final decision is made. The Commission can decide which <br />meeting fo invite neighbors to at their next meeting. <br />TRAIL GRANT Sanders stated that our trail grant application was ranked 23`~ out of 39. This year, <br />Minneapolis, St. Paul, and DNR projects were funded. Sanders felt that the regional <br />significance of our project may have brought us down in the rankings. However, he felt it <br />was worth trying again next year. He indicated that he would take a look at the areas of the <br />application needing attention to try to improve our chances of being awarded the gratrt. He <br />handed out a list of the items ranked to the Commission Members. They asked him to bring <br />information to the next meeting that would specifically let them know how each item on our <br />application was ranked. <br />RF,CREATION The Director reported on the following: <br />REPORT <br />A Spring Youth Activities Registration flyer was handed out to those present. <br />Registration has just taken place for T-ball, Pop-up Ball, Baseball, Softball, After School <br />Tennis, and Floor Hockey. <br />Registration for adult softball continues. Leagues this year include Monday Co-Rec, <br />Monday Men, Wednesday Men, Thursday Men over 35, and Friday Men. <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
